Kevin Elam

Renowned and multiple award winning Master Fiddler Andrew Dodds draws upon the talents of Kevin Elam (multi-instrumentalist and 2019 All Ireland champion in male vocals) and Emily Martin (of the Martin Family Band, mid-Atlantic staples in the traditional music scene) to produce a crackin’ good show!

Featuring Dodds on fiddle, Elam on guitar and vocals, Emily Martin on Mandolin, and Elora Martin on flute and whistles: they will bring a variety of repertoire, styles, and skill to the stage rarely seen! Andrew and his custom-selected band mates will offer a variety of workshops throughout the day. Come join in with them, too, at the Glen Stage Open Jam.

Celtic Machinations

Celtic Machinations returns to the Southern Maryland Celtic Festival with their mix of great ballads and fiddle tunes.

The trio has performed at venues from Middletown, VA to Hillsborough, NC and was nominated by the Washington Area Music Association for Best Traditional Folk Album on two separate occasions.

The trio consists of Jim Lawrence (vocals, guitar, bouzouki, bodhran), Lauren Smith (vocals, fiddle) and Holly Breivik (vocals, whistle, bodhran).

Crikwater
Picture

Born in the rustbelt Irish American neighborhood of South Buffalo, NY in 2010, Crikwater has become the premier Irish American Traditional Folk Band in Western New York, appearing numerous times at the Buffalo Irish Festival, South Buffalo Irish Feis and Expo, and most recently, the Hornell Irish Fest. Boasting four multi-instrumentalists and an energetic show, Crikwater stays true to the venerable Irish and American folk traditions with arrangements that include multi-part vocal harmonies and intricate musicianship.

The pub-scene veterans offer up a mix of fiery fiddle tunes, rowdy pub sing-a-longs, elegant ballads, and original songs, and their music conjures scenes of gritty smoke filled Irish pubs, whiskey, pints of stout, and good craic.

Gary & Annie Pape
Picture

Gary and Annie Pape have been playing music together for 30 years as only father and daughter can.  Specializing in many styles of music, from classical violin to Americana, old time, blues, jazz, and bluegrass, they are excited for a return performance at one of their first and favorite venues, together, for an afternoon of Celtic music.

Gary, an active member of the Southern Maryland music community, can be heard performing on guitar and bass at open mics all over Calvert County. He has been a member of several popular local bands, including Rockfish singing both lead and harmonizing vocals.  Annie, a Calvert High School graduate, now lives northeast of Baltimore where she teaches orchestra and guitar, and conducts the Harford String Orchestra. She has studied classical violin with Mark Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff as well as Scottish fiddling with Elke Baker. She can be heard playing with many groups and ensembles in the Baltimore area, most recently with the bluegrass group, Whiskey Narrows String Band.

Gary and Annie can also be seen in a documentary filmed for Maryland Public Television, War of 1812 on the Chesapeake: Home of the Brave, which originally aired in June of 2012.

Helicon – Duo Style
Picture

Helicon reunites two of the three world class Helicon musicians Robin Bullock (piano, guitar, cittern, mandolin) and Chris Norman (wooden flutes, tin whistle, small pipes, piano) for our 2022 Festival! Ken Kolodner (hammered dulcimer, fiddle) won’t be joining us this year, but you can expect to see him around the DC/Baltimore area throughout the year!  As a duo, Robin and Chris have heaps of repertoire and recordings together, including Man with the Wooden Flute, which made the Billboard charts way back in 1991!

This powerful duo joins us this year to celebrate the connections between Celtic and American traditional music, elevated to a new level of perfection.

Poisoned Dwarf
Picture

“Poisoned Dwarf delivers a live performance like no other - whether it is the traditional tunes of Ireland and Scotland, or lesser known Celtic music from Spain, Wales, and France - their on-stage banter and camaraderie make you feel like you are sitting in on a traditional session at your local pub and having the time of your life!”

Poisoned Dwarf is a Celtic music group that plays energetic, innovative and passionate renditions of traditional Irish and Scottish music on acoustic instruments.  With a wide musical palate, six talented musicians create a driving sonic energy that has been captivating audiences for over a decade.  With a wide color palate of whistles, Irish flute, violin, guitar, percussion, Uilleann pipes, and two exciting and lyrical vocalists, Poisoned Dwarf captivates the listener, bringing out the inner beauty of Celtic music in new and imaginative ways. Poisoned Dwarf performs at a wide variety of musical venues from highland festivals to theaters, from churches to sophisticated listening venues, and in the occasional pub just for fun.
