Parade of the Clans and Nations; Living History Regiments; and Massed Bands
Join us at noon at Site 7 for the official kickoff to the 2022 Southern Maryland Celtic Festiva! Welcoming all competitors, festival participants, and visitors to the day's events. Welcoming Ceremonies are marked by the Parade of Clans and Nations with representation by the participating clans, Living History Regiments with reenactors, and the ever-popular Massed Bands. Come cheer them on as they march down the field with their flags, colors, costumes, kilts, pipes, and drums!

Benfield Brass Band - Site 7

Benfield Brass Band is a traditional British-style brass band, originally formed in 1998 for the express purpose of participating at the Gettysburg Brass Band Festival, held each year in June. 

In the British style, the band is composed of brass and percussion instruments. The instrumentation consists of cornets, flugelhorn, tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones and bases, as well as percussion. Currently the band has about 40 members. The band is a volunteer organization performs from midfall to midsummer.

This season includes concert performances at the Southern Maryland Celtic Festival, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Annapolis, Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Severna Park, Wesley Grove Strawberry Festival, the Gettysburg (PA) Brass Band festival, and Oak Crest Retirement Community in Belair (MD), and Benton Park, in Linthicum. Ray Ascione,

Conductor of the band, is a retired Navy Commander who, in his 35 years of active duty naval service, has held positions as Leader of the U.S. Naval Academy Band, Assistant Leader of the Navy Band in Washington, D.C., and Director of the Navy Music School. Since retirement in the Annapolis area, he remains active musically, as a performer, conductor, educator and consultant.
