Become A Volunteer

We are seeking individuals to fill the following roles in the CSSM Board of Directors and in support of SMCF.

CSSM BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND OTHER POSITIONS

  • Members: to help run the CSSM non-profit organization and support the Board of Directors in their duties.

 

  • Publicity Manager:  We’re seeking an organized and dedicated publicity manager to support all CSSM events. This individual must be knowledgeable in the use of social media as the primary platform for “free” publicity and affordable broad-reaching ads, as well as the development and distribution/submissions of free PSAs via the local news media and community websites. This individual would work closely with the CSSM Board of Directors, as well as designated event coordinators (Festival Chair, Concert/Entertainment Chair, Celtic Dinner Chair, etc) to develop marketing strategies and supporting publicity materials, coordinate, negotiate, and manage paid advertising in accordance with the established budget for each CSSM event. Skills in MS Office Suite a must; other graphics software package knowledge a plus.

 

  • Elected Officers:  We need nominees for Vice President and one of the two Member at Large Positions (the incumbent Recording Secretary is willing to stand for reelection). If you think you might not be eligible to run, note that the President can appoint a member to the position. Duties of these positions include:

 

  • Vice President:
    • (A) Perform the duties of the President in the event of absence, or if the President is incapacitated.
    • (B) Serve the unexpired term of the President, should that office be vacated for any reason whatsoever.
    • (C) Assist in the President’s duties.
    • (D) Fulfill all the requirements and duties as specified by the Constitution and By-Laws of the Society.

 

  • Secretary: The incumbent is willing to stand for reelection to remain in the position for the next term of two years:
    • (A) Perform the duties of the President and Vice President in their absence.
    • (B) Assist the President and the Vice President in the performance of their duties.
    • (C) Perform such functions as may be assigned by the President and the Board of Directors.
    • (D) Maintain all official records of the Society.
    • (E) Fulfill all the requirements and duties as specified by the Constitution and By-Laws of the Society.

 

  • Member at Large:
    • (A) The Members-at-Large shall represent all members of the Society not affiliated with a formal committee.
    • (B) Maintain active membership during his/her term. 
    • (C) Attend all Board meetings.
    • (D) Assist in the development and adoption of policies.
    • (E) Assist in the coordination of Society activities.
    • (F) Perform all other Society activities deemed necessary by the President.

 

POSITIONS TO SUPPORT THE SMCF STEERING COMMITTEE

 

  • Festival Co-Chair ApprenticeSeeking an event coordinator to work under the guidance and mentoring of our current, veteran festival steering committee and Festival Co-Chairs. This individual must be willing to learn the processes and procedures guiding the coordination and management of the annual Southern Maryland Celtic Festival, held on the last Saturday in April at Jefferson-Patterson Park & Museum in Prince Frederick. This individual must be a leader and a team player who will coordinate the efforts of all branches of the festival steering committee, including but not limited to: coordination and planning of all monthly Festival steering committee meetings with steering committee members, and/or board members; promote the annual festival, handle telephone inquiries as needed, ensure active insurance coverage for the festival, ensure festival participant Hold Harmless Agreements are collected, oversee and manage festival incident reports, if any, coordinate with Jefferson-Patterson Park & Museum staff in planning, coordination, and management of the festival.

 

  • Volunteer CoordinatorSeeking a Volunteer Coordinator to develop and manage a volunteer program for the annual Southern Maryland Celtic Festival, held on the last Saturday in April at Jefferson-Patterson Park & Museum in Prince Frederick. 

 

  • Festival Information CoordinatorSeeking a Festival Information Coordinator to fill two responsibilities for our annual Southern Maryland Celtic Festival, which is held on the last Saturday in April at Jefferson-Patterson Park & Museum in Prince Frederick. This person ensures and coordinates staffing for two information sites; and remains on-site to coordinate and handle information requests as needed. 

 

  • Highland Games Steward ApprenticeSeeking energetic, athletic-minded individual to work under the guidance and mentoring of our current, veteran leader/coordinator of the highland games competition to coordinate and manage competitor registration, check-in, judges’ score sheets, final awards announcements and distribution of prizes. Additionally, be available onsite during the days preceding the festival to set up the game field, as necessary. This requires someone with good organizational and leadership skills who can work well as directed with little to no supervision.

 

  • Stage support/Event site Golf cart/gator driversDrivers are needed to chauffeur steering committee members and stage performers (with instruments and equipment), as needed, from stage to stage (Pub, Glen, and Fiddle Tent stage areas; and event site to event site. Must be over age 18 with a valid driver’s license.
