The Celtic Society of Southern Maryland (CSSM) is celebrating its annual Robert Burns Night on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Hilton Garden Inn Solomons. This celebration offers a formal evening affair for those who love history, Celtic tradition and Robert Burns, the man and poet.

This 16th annual Burns Night is held to honor the birthday of the great Scottish poet Robert Burns. The four course meal with traditional music and dancing is  per person. Social hour and cash bar begin at 6:00pm followed by entertainment and dinner. A traditional Burns Supper menu will be offered and guests will enjoy a fine performance from one of the region's finest bagpipe bands, dancing, and humor in the Burns style.
The Hilton Garden Inn Solomons is at 13100 Dowell Road, Dowell, MD and is offering a special rate for our event attendees. To make a reservation you can go to http://hiltongardeninn.hilton.com/en/gi/groups/personalized/D/DCASOGI-RBD-20110115/index.jhtml?WT.mc_id=POG or call the hotel directly at 410-231-5079 and ask for the Robert Burns Dinner or RBD group rate and make this evening a special mid-winter mini vacation.

Robert Burns was born on January 25, 1759. Suppers in his honor began in 1796 when close friends of Scotland's most famous poet, then and now, held the first supper in tribute to the immortal memory of the poet who wrote about and fervently believed in the equality of man.

Today Burns Suppers have become a world-wide phenomenon, being celebrated in such surprising places as Japan and India as well as anywhere else you’d expect to find lovers of Scotland and its culture. The basic format for the evening has remained unchanged. Wear your kilt, or favorite formal attire in the Celtic spirit to enjoy creative toasts to the Queen, the President, the lads, and lassies, an ode to the haggis, fiddles, bagpipes, dancing, “sangs and clatter”. Retire after dinner to the cozy heated “gentlemen’s den” for a smoke (ladies are certainly welcome, too). Quality cigars will be available for purchase.

Purchase your tickets online now at www.cssm.org/tickets.

What do you get when you mix Pond Scum with the Ruddy Duck and the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland on St. Patrick’s Day? A friendly group gathering featuring men in kilts, skirling highland bagpipes, accordions, fiddles, guitars, drums and whistles, high-energy dance tunes, and a fiddling waitress and a friendly and attentive staff serving you fine food and freshly brewed beer!

This isn’t about the green hats and streamers; ...this is just good wholesome fun in the spirit of one of the most popular holiday celebrations in Celtic culture. Carlos Yanez, co-owner of the Ruddy Duck Brewery and Grill in Solomons is a native of Argentina and direct descendant of Galicia/Asturias (one of the seven Celtic nations: Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany (France), Galicia/Asturias (Spain), Cornwall (England) and the Isle of Man (British Isles)).

Carlos and co-owner Michael Kelly (chef) are loyal sponsors for the Celtic Society events. Together, the Ruddy Duck and the Celtic Society have celebrated several events with Celtic themes including the rollout of the local brewery’s Scottish Ale, St. Patrick’s day 2010, the Celtic Festival 2010, Celtic spring concerts/workshops, and are looking forward to seeing you again as they celebrate St. Patrick’s day 2011.
